Ingredients

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tablespoon light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt
  • gel food coloring optional
  • extra milk or powdered sugar for adjusting consistency

Method

  1. Add powdered sugar to a medium bowl and whisk to remove any lumps.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons milk, vanilla extract, corn syrup, and salt. Stir gently until combined.
  3. Whisk until smooth and glossy, scraping the sides of the bowl to fully incorporate.
  4. Add more milk a teaspoon at a time until the icing reaches a smooth ribbon consistency.
  5. If the icing becomes too thin, add powdered sugar a tablespoon at a time to thicken.
  6. Divide into bowls and mix in gel food coloring if using.
  7. Use a spoon or piping bag to decorate cookies. Tap cookies lightly to smooth the surface.
