Italian Chopped Salad Sandwich

Ingredients
  

  • 1 crusty Italian bread loaf or ciabatta
  • 1 cup romaine lettuce finely chopped
  • ½ cup cherry tomatoes diced
  • ¼ cup red onion finely chopped
  • ½ cup salami chopped
  • ½ cup pepperoni chopped
  • ½ cup provolone cheese chopped
  • ¼ cup banana peppers sliced
  • ¼ cup black olives sliced
  • cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Method
 

  1. Step 1: Prep All Ingredients - Chop everything into small, even pieces.
  2. Step 2: Make the Dressing - In a bowl, mix mayonnaise, red wine vinegar, olive oil, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  3. Step 3: Combine the Filling - Add chopped lettuce, meats, cheese, tomatoes, onions, olives, and banana peppers to a large bowl. Pour dressing over and toss well.
  4. Step 4: Prepare the Bread - Slice bread lengthwise and lightly hollow out if too thick. Optionally toast lightly.
  5. Step 5: Assemble the Sandwich - Pile the chopped salad mixture into the bread, press gently, and let sit for a couple of minutes.
  6. Step 6: Slice and Serve - Cut into portions with a sharp knife and serve immediately or wrap tightly for later.
