Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
Wash asparagus and dry completely. Trim the woody ends by snapping them off.
Place asparagus on a baking sheet in a single layer.
Drizzle with olive oil and toss to coat evenly.
Scatter sliced garlic over the asparagus, making sure it is lightly coated with oil.
Sprinkle salt and black pepper evenly over the top.
Roast for 10 to 14 minutes until tender with lightly crisp edges.
Remove from oven and taste. Adjust seasoning if needed.
Optional: finish with a squeeze of lemon juice or sprinkle with Parmesan cheese before serving.
