Simple Stovetop Asparagus Recipe in Minutes

Ingredients
  

  • 1 bunch fresh asparagus
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • 2 cloves garlic minced (optional)
  • lemon juice optional
  • red pepper flakes optional

Method
 

  1. Rinse asparagus under cold water and pat completely dry. Trim off the woody ends.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil or butter.
  3. Place asparagus in a single layer in the pan.
  4. Cook undisturbed for 1 to 2 minutes to allow light browning.
  5. Toss occasionally and continue cooking for 4 to 6 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp.
  6. Add minced garlic during the last minute of cooking if using.
  7. Season with salt and black pepper.
  8. Remove from heat and finish with a squeeze of lemon juice and optional red pepper flakes.
  9. Serve immediately.
